ABOUT REGINA PACIS UNIVERSITY COLLEGE
Regina Pacis University College is a constituent college of Catholic University of East Africa that was established in 2010. After approval by the Nursing Council of Kenya admission commenced in 2010. The school was situated at the St. Mary’s Missions Hospital. In the beginning the school offered a four year course – Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Nursing (BScN). But after failing to meet the criteria for being a fully-fledged university the Catholic University of East Africa gave it its autonomy in 2016.
After being allowed to issue diplomas in its nursing curriculum for full-time and part-time students, the college has since maintained the two programs. The school has three departments namely: - Community Health Development, Nursing and Medical Education. The courses offered at the school are: - Project Planning & Management, Medical Education, Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations, Nutrition and Dietetics, Business Management, Public Relations, Purchasing and Supplies, Early Childhood Education, Guidance and Counselling, Community Health and Development, Pre-University, Spiritual Direction, Education, Computer Science, Bridging Courses (English, Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry) and Small Christian Communities.
Regis Pacis University collaborates with various health institutions to enable its students get the wholesome experience they need. Among these institutions are: - Kenyatta National Hospital, Mbagathi County Hospital, Mathare Hospital, Karen Medical Training Center, Presbyterian University of Eastern Africa School of Nursing, Women Hospital Medical Training School, County of Nairobi and Kajiado Health centers for Community Health Experience, Mission for Essential Drugs and Supply (MEDS), University of Nairobi and Kenyatta Hospital Ethical Clearance for research and Langata children’s home for community service. Some have not finalized their MOUs like Coptic Hospital and Pumwani Hospital and School of Nursing.
Regina Pacis University College accepts both government sponsored and self-sponsored students. The college’s aim is to produce self-driven graduates with good knowledge and skills, along with values needed for leadership in clinical nursing practice, academics and research by the community. Students are also exposed to co-curriculum activities to help them build character. Such activities include but are not limited to community service, clubs and associations like YCCS, workshops, conferences, seminars and Catholic Nurses Association. The first graduation ceremony was held in May 2014, and has been recurring every year since. Those posted among the graduates in some of the country’s hospitals for their internships (one year) by the Ministry of health have produced good feedback from institutions like the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH). After completion of the programs examined by Regina Pacis University College, the graduates are supposed to undertake a separate exam by the Nursing Council of Kenya for their license.
