Located in Machakos County, Machakos University was founded in 1957 as the Technical Rural Training Institute by the colonial government. In 1958, the center was converted into the Machakos Technical and Trade School, and later Chartered to Machakos University in October 2016. The University is governed through the council, senate and General Board of the Faculties. Theses bodies have representation from across the University.
